Q&A with a camera classby Jeffrey
Jenny invited me to tell some things about the preparation and research that is needed to make a documentary. There were questions like: How can you forsee technical difficulties like a noisy location? and What if your subject suddenly doesn’t want to cooperate?
Why is it important that before you even begin to film you should make it clear for yourself what you want to accomplish, but at the same time you should also let the circumstances take over because that can really add something you haven’t come up with.
The class had some basic questions about what a documentary is. Can you compare it to a show like Idols? Its about real persons and situations, but what is the difference between a documentary and a reality show? The concept and purpose of a documentary and the almost limitless things you can do with it where a little bit hard to grasp for the class. But they were really curious about it.
